WHAT IS KIZOMBA?
Kizomba is a beautiful African partner dance that originated in Angola, and has often been dubbed the ‘African Tango’. Very closely related to Zouk music from the French Caribbean, Kizomba has evolved from various rhythms such as Semba, but with a modern electronic percussive element and a slower, more sensual, and romantic beat. Kizomba dancers connect closely together and move in a sensual wavy motion, where leading and following finds a new dimension. Once on the dance floor the rhythms and beats become very intoxicating. It is hugely popular in Europe and is taking Australia by storm!
ABOUT ARMAND DE SAINT-SALVY:
Armand is Australia’s premiere Kizomba expert, having studied overseas with Kizomba masters from Angola, Portugal, Cape Verde and the United Kingdom. He is well versed in the different styles of Kizomba, and is also Australia’s foremost exponent of Semba, the dance form which fathered Brazilian Samba and Kizomba. His style is authentic and world class, and his classes are both fun and technical. He is spreading Kizomba across Australia, teaching Kizomba at most of Sydney’s leading Latin Dance schools, and having taught and performed at the Brisbane International Salsa and Brazilian Dance Festival, Sydney International Bachata Festival, Melbourne International Latin Festival and the Byron Bay Latin Fiesta.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS:
Introduction to Kizomba, which will cover the fundamentals of body movement, footwork and partnering. These foundations are the most important part of Kizomba, so this workshop is essential for current Kizomba dancers. Armand will be teaching a NEW FUNDAMENTAL TECHNIQUE which is essential for Tarraxa.
KIZOMBA 2 & 3:
Essential African and European techniques for male and female dancers to make your Kizomba dancing effortless! Armand will also teach you about connecting moves, links, technique detail for lead and follow, connection, musicality, foot technique, body movement, body language, the center and posture connection.
In this workshop Armand will be fine tuning your technique from the previous workshops, plus incorporating some steps and body movement from Semba (predecessor to Kizomba, Kuduro and Brazilian Samba), plus a little surprise!
Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to learn from Australia’s pioneer of Kizomba, right here in Melbourne!
